Travel to Kraków

Kraków is easily reachable by several means of transport.

Plane

There are direct flights to Kraków from several European cities. The JPII Airport in Balice (KRK) is located about 15 km away from the city centre. One can reach it by municipal bus (lines number 292, 203 or 902 at night) or fast airport train that runs to the main railway station, Kraków Główny, every 30 minutes. Detailed information can be found at the website of the airport.

There is also a possibility to fly to Warsaw (300 km from Kraków). The Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) is located about 10 km from the city centre. To reach Kraków one can either take a domestic flight or take a train from Warszawa Centralna to Kraków Główny. More details about the flights to Warsaw can be found here.

Another option is to fly to Katowice-Airport in Pyrzowice (KTW) and take a bus to Kraków (approximately one hour and a half, 70 km). Detailed information about the flights and the bus service can be found here.

Train

Kraków has direct railway connections with many cities in Europe. Detailed information about the domestic train schedules are available here.

Bus

The main bus station is located right next to the Kraków Główny railway station. Domestic and regional connections are serviced by PKS. International connections are mostly serviced by private transport agencies and some details about the bus schedules can be found here.

Transport to the city center

From Balice Airport

Kraków Balice Airport is situated about 12 km east from the city centre. There is a couple of ways you can get from there:

  1. TAXI - costs about 75 zł, call (0) 800 19 19 19. Very comfortable, but not the fastest one.
  2. TRAIN - departs every 30 minutes from 4.50 a.m. to 10.23 a.m. and costs 10 zł per ticket. By far the fastest way of getting to the centre, also a comfortable one - the trains are new and you are sure to get a seat there, as few people use it. The only drawback is that it doesn't stop anywhere in the centre except from the main railway station. Complete information - www.krakowairport.pl/en/3/176/35/Pociag
  3. BUS/TRAM - there are two bus lines - 208 and 292 which depart on average once an hour each. The full timetable is at the bottom of this page. It is the cheapest way of travel, you can buy a single trip ticket for 3.20 zł, a 90-minutes ticket for 5.20 zł or a 24-hour ticket for 16.00 zł (for student the tickets are 50% cheaper). 90-minutes ticket should be more than enough to get to every place in the centre, however you may need to switch buses/trams once or twice. You can buy a ticket in the RELAY press at the airport salon or from the ticket vending machine on 292 line buses.

Tickets and timetable

The tickets are the same for trams and buses, and so are their prices. Here is a table of ticket prices.
